Vodafone Australia has doubled up on the good stuff, today announcing both a new shared “family plan” and a content deal with local upstart “Netflix-killer” video streaming service, Stan. While Vodafone have long offered shared plans in other markets, it has been noted that this is the first time such a plan has appeared down under.
According to Vodafone Australia “Vodafone Shared is different from the rest because they allow families to share everything that’s included across all plans on just one bill, including calls, TXT, data, and the very best of Vodafone Red – access to $5 Roaming, Data WorkOut and 300 international calling minutes – across up to 10 devices. They also noted that “According to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), nearly 70 per cent of Australian adults use three or more different devices to connect to the internet, and one in every two adult Australians use a tablet.” Which begs the question, what took them so long to roll out shared plans?
Vodafone Australia are going to give you every opportunity to use all that data you just purchased. Vodafone Australia also announced an exclusive mobile partnership (with Stan) to give Vodafone customers access to thousands of hours of local and international content, including first – run TV Shows such as Better Call Saul, blockbuster movies and popular kids programming. Stan is a joint venture of Nine Entertainment Co. and Fairfax Media (Streaming wars Down-under here). Vodafone Australia has significantly beefed up its status and offering. The only question that remains, is can they deliver? Vodafone in the land of OZ has had its share of woes. While this is a bold and innovative market move, many people still have vivid memories of the Vodafone Australia network not being able to hold a phone call. Vodafone has made significant improvements and investments into its network, success with these initiative will prove if they have done their job.
