T-Mobile Un-carrier 7.0, Brings Gogo In-flight Texting Partnership and Next-gen WiFi Calling
With another industry player snubbing the CTIA Super Mobility week down in Vegas, T-Mobile has been busy in San Francisco doing its own show. While T-Mobile is rapidly deploying its LTE network it has released a few work abounds to plug the holes. WiFi pretty much everywhere even on the plane. T-Mobile dubbed it “WiFi Unleashed.” They have enabled WiFi texting and calling on almost every connected device. The calls and texts are free. They have turned every T-Mobile Cell tower into a super-WiFi hotspot. They are offering a $25 Personal CellSpot router to people with coverage problems within their homes. Lastly, they have partnered with in-flight provider Gogo to provide customers with free unlimited text messages and voicemail access on all Gogo-equipped flights on US-based airlines.
I guess the plan is to reduce churn to other operators while they continue to roll out their LTE coverage. The big question is do they have a plan to wean customers off all this free stuff once the network is in place? People tend to get used to free!
